BIO
ILLGONQUIN. Music rooted in and inspired by our respective heritages. The band comprised of: Leonard Sumner (Ojibway, Little Saskatchewan, MB), Jeremy Dutcher (Neqotkuk First Nation, NB), MJ Dandeneau (Ojibway/Métis nations, MB) and Lesley Boulanger (Berens River First Nation, AB).

ILLgonquin will bring a fusion of Hip-Hop, Country and Soul emerging with Indigenous Neo-Classical. Each member is inspired by their own Canadian Indigenous cultures of Ojibway, French-Métis, Wolastoq and Anishinaabe.  They are niiwin (four) strong Anishinaabe artists who come together to create an exciting and unique sound yet to be heard in the music world.

THE BAND:

Leonard Sumner is an Ojibway singer/songwriter; he draws on his Anishinaabe roots for lyrics and rhythms. He provides perspective from a voice often unheard and over-looked in the traditional music communities: truthful, insightful, and providing a new sound straight from ‘the Rez’. He brings a fusion of Hip-Hop, Country and Rhythm and Blues to the group.

Jeremy Dutcher , from Neqotkuk First Nation, is a classically- trained opera singer and offers up his musical inspiration from jazz, contemporary and the traditional music of his people - the Wolastoq people. He is known to combine distinct musical aesthetics into the emerging genre of indigenous neo-classical.

MJ Dandeneau is a gifted bassist/singer, producer and director with roots in the Métis/Ojibway Franco-Manitoban communities, well versed in those distinct rhythms and styles. MJ has years of experiences working with a number of different artists from stage to studio to TV to touring all over the globe.

Lesley Boulanger, a Berens River First Nation DJ/ Producer, can adapt to any style that comes his way. He adds interesting drum beats to the mix with access to old singing archives.
